ALB launched to a 11 metre yacht suffering steering failure 12.5 SE Weymouth

ALB launched at the request of Solent Coastguards to assist a 11 metre yacht suffering from steering failure 12.5’ SE of Weymouth with 4 persons on-board.
Once on scene the ALB check the condition of the vessel and all on board. With no further problems, and all persons well a towline with a bridle was passed to the casualty.
Once safely connected the tow was commenced. Because the rudder was jammed hard over the yacht was requested to stream the Lifeboats drogue from its stern to help.
With this completed the tow was commenced to Weymouth.
At the harbour entrance, the yacht was brought alongside the ALB and towed up to berth B8 in Weymouth harbour.
The ALB was then released to return to station, refuelled and made ready for service.
