Weymouth RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched at 4.05pm on Friday 21st July 2017 to go to the assistance of a 7m yacht which was in trouble just off of the Chequered Fort of Portland Harbour breakwater. The yacht with 1 persons on board was on passage from Poole to Falmouth when she suffered a broken rudder. The yacht had twin rudders but with one broken off it meant that the vessel was not steerable. Once on scene, the volunteer crew of the lifeboat established that the yacht crew were fit and well and then attached a tow line and brought the yacht back to the waiting pontoon of Weymouth Harbour, arriving back at 5.15pm
