Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the ALB to take over the tow of a 38ft motor vessel. The casualty vessel had been on passage from Beaulieu to Dartmouth when they suffered engine failure. The passing Salcombe lifeboat 1613 were on passage to Poole and able to assist the vessel in taking them under tow. However, it was requested that Weymouth ALB took over the tow near Portland Bill to allow Salcombe to continue on their intended passage.

The tow was connected in the lee of the land on the west side of Portland and Salcombe lifeboat released. On arrival outside weymouth harbour the casualty vessel was brought along side and towed into berth B3 in Weymouth harbour.

The ALB was released and returned to station where it was refuelled, sanitised and made ready for the next tasking.
