Solent Coastguards requested Lifeboat assistance to a ‘Pan Pan’ call from a 11.8 metre motor vessel suffering engine failure and close to the rocks at Portland Bill with 2 people and a dog on board.
The ALB was paged and launched.
Once underway it was established that a local fishing vessel had connected a tow to the casualty to stabilise the situation.
Once on scene the casualty was assessed, and with no other problems apparent, the tow was dropped from the fishing vessel, and the lifeboat connected a double bridle and towline to the casualty.
Once connected, the tow was commenced back towards Weymouth.
Once clear of Portland, the casualty stated their engine was now working.
The tow was drop, and the vessel followed the ALB into Weymouth harbour, and moored alongside a pontoon without any further assistance.
Once moored the ALB was released to return to station, where it was refuelled and made ready for service.
