NMOC reported that a vessel had issued a Mayday stating that they had located 2 men alive in the water 2.5nm SE Weymouth Harbour. No more details were known at that stage. The DLA agreed that both boats should proceed, the facility for casualty care/ transfer being valuable. The CG rescue helicopter was also tasked to the scene. The males had been in the water for approx 2 hours, only 1 of them wearing a life-jacket, the other hanging on to a fuel tank for buoyancy. The ILB took the winchman from the helo aboard for assessment of the casualties. It was established that there were no other persons involved, 1 was taken aboard the ALB, the other remained alongside the ALB in a RIB which had responded to the Mayday. The helicopter lowered stretcher and other equipment to the ALB. Both casualties were winched into the helicopter after initial casualty care, 1 from the ALB, the other from the assisting RIB and taken to Dorchester Hospital.
