Weymouth RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched at 9.34am on Tuesday 8th September 2020 following reports from Solent Coastguard that a vessel had sent out a Pan Pan radio message requesting assistance.
A 12m motor yacht was reported to be in a position 3 miles North West of Portland Bill with a pot bouy rope wrapped around its propeller. The motor cruiser with 2 persons onboard was on passage from Lyme Regis to Weymouth when it became stuck.
On scene at 10.38am the volunteer crew of the lifeboat struggled for some time to free the rope from the yachts propeller but eventually managed to cut it free.
Once free, a line was passed and the vessel was towed to a safe anchorage just outside Weymouth Harbour, arriving at 2.04pm.
The lifeboat then returned to its berth, refuelled and made ready for the next shout.
