When launching on exercise the Coastguards paged the DLA to requested lifeboat assistance in assisting several paddle boarders reported by a member of the public as possibly being in difficulties on the outside of Portland Harbour Breakwater.
The LOM requested that the local CRT team to be also tasked.
After talking to the duty coxswain it was decided that the ALB would proceed to the area, as it was already in the process of slipping on exercise.
Once in the vicinity, the ALB conducted a search of the outside first arm of the breakwater, then the area on the inside.
With nothing found the ALB then conducted a search of the outside of the second arm of the breakwater, then in through the Eastern entrance and towards Sandfoot Castle.
Wyke Coastguards had located 2 members of the paddle boarders safely ashore, and after questioning them it became clear the paddle boarders had set off from Ringstead in 2 groups. One following the coast, and one going direct to Portland Harbour and Sandsfoot Castle.
After further searching, and questioning of all, it became apparent that all the paddle boarders had made shore safely in various parts of Portland Harbour
ALB was stood down to continue with its exercise0
