Solent Coastguards request lifeboat assistance to a 14 metre vessel broken down with 2 adults & 2 children on-board & had issued a Pan Pan, in the middle of Lyme Bay.

ALB was paged and launched. Another vessel also responded to the Pan & proceeded in the direction of the casualty vessel. Once the ALB arrived, the other vessel was stood down.

The ALB closed the casualty and assessed the situation. With no other problems on board, and everyone safe a well, a tow was passed to the vessel. Once established a course was set towards Chesil Cove.
As tow got closer to Portland the vessel was called on VHF several times to request the tow to be checked for wear before the vessels got too close to land. This was unsuccessful.

Approximately 10 minutes later the tow line parted. The Lifeboat stopped and recovered the tow and closed the casualty vessel again. The tow was again passed and reconnected, and the vessel towed safely around Portland to the entrance to Weymouth.

At the harbour the tow was slipped, and the casualty brought alongside the Lifeboat & towed up the harbour to a vacant berth were Wyke C.G members awaited to help with the berthing of the vessel.

With the vessel safely alongside the ALB was released to return to station, refuelled and made ready for service.
