A tasking request was received from Solent Coastguard for the ILB to assist two Kayakers ashore to the East of White Nothe. They were cut off and unable to move from their current location due to weather and sea conditions. It was thought by Solent Coastguard that a rope extraction via the CG CRT would be hazardous and difficult given their location. The ILB proceeded and when on scene made verbal contact with the two casualties who whilst cut off confirmed that they were uninjured and safe at that time.
Given the terrain, weather and sea conditions close inshore at the scene the ILB helm considered it to be too dangerous to attempt to extract the casualties via the ILB. Given that the casualties were not in any immediate danger the ILB stood offshore to await the arrival of the Coastguard Cliff Rescue teams at the top of the cliff.
Whilst the cliff rescue teams assembled, descended the cliff and extracted the casualties by rope rescue the ILB was requested by Solent Coastguard to remain on scene to provide safety cover from just offshore. When both casualties were safely at the top of the cliff and in the care of the Coastguard Rescue teams the ILB was released from the scene to return to station where it was refuelled and made ready for service.
