Weymouth ILB launched to assist a 55’ cabin cruiser with 10 persons on board that had run aground on the ‘Mixen’ just outside Weymouth Harbour.

The ILB arrived on scene to find the vessel clear of the rocks, but with propulsion problems.

The ILB put a crew member on board to assess the situation. With no apparent water ingress or pollution issues and with all persons on board safe & well the ILB attached a tow to the vessel to keep it from grounding again.

Due to the size of the vessel, and the nearest lift out facility being at Portland Marina, it was decided the ALB would tow the vessel.
Once the ALB was on scene the ILB slip her tow which was replaced by the ALB tow.

The tow was then commenced towards Portland Harbour. The ILB was released to return to station.

At the entrance to the marina, the ALB brought the casualty alongside the lifeboat to manoeuvre it into the marina, and alongside a berth.
