Jan Mitchell and her family have had a long association with the RNLI going back generations and is a keen supporter of the RNLI.
She is always aware of what the lifeboat station is doing, and knowing that the station shop was closed, had an idea to raise funds for the station and allow the local community to be able to purchase their much loved Christmas cards.
Jan, who normally runs The T shop, came up with the idea to help raise much needed funds for the RNLI by opening up her shop just to sell Christmas items.
She approached the lifeboat Coxswain Andy Sargent with her idea, thinking that he would think that she was crazy, however Andy gave her his full support for the idea and put her in touch with Teresa Drage and Chrissie Payne from the station support staff.
The result of which is that when The T Shop closes for the winter next week, 1st November 2020, The Pop Up RNLI shop will open.
The opening days will be 7/8th and 14/15th November from 11 till 4 O’clock.
Chrissie Payne, Weymouth Lifeboat Management Group Chair said;
“I want to thank Jan for her generosity. The T Shop opening for two weekends solely to sell RNLI Christmas cards, calendars, diaries and stocking fillers is a wonderful act of support. This generous action is very much appreciated by all at Weymouth Lifeboat Station in these difficult and challenging days.”
